Overview

Bloomwell partners with small and mid-size clinics that couldn't afford enterprise patient portals but still needed secure messaging, appointment scheduling, and medication reminders. We built a mobile app and clinic-facing dashboard from the ground up, engineered for HIPAA compliance from day one rather than retrofitted later.

The challenge

Healthcare software carries a different risk profile than most consumer apps — a security gap isn't just a bug, it's a compliance and patient-safety issue. Bloomwell also needed the app to work well for an older, less tech-comfortable patient demographic, without sacrificing the clinical rigor clinics required on their side.

Our approach

• Architected the entire data layer around HIPAA requirements — encryption at rest and in transit, strict audit logging, and role-based access control baked in from the first sprint.
• Designed a simplified patient-facing UI with large touch targets, plain-language copy, and a guided onboarding flow tested with real patients over 60.
• Built a clinic dashboard for staff to manage messaging, scheduling, and reminders without needing IT support to operate it.
• Integrated with common EHR systems via HL7/FHIR so clinics didn't have to change their existing record-keeping workflow.
